It looks like SABC Sport Presenter Walter Mokoena has yet again gone and put his foot in his mouth after making some very unprofessional comments following Bafana's defeat against Spain last night.
Mokoena who has a history of being 'immature' and unprofessional on National Television, said that Bafana coach Joel Santana should be sacked while also stating that it is time for Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena to go. His parting words last night were:
"Good night and I think we should have a new captain, Aaron Mokoena has never done anything for us, and perhaps after the Confederations Cup a new coach, Joel Santana is not going to take us anywhere.”
While Mokoena may or may not have a point, making such unessesary comments when the whole world is watching is simply unprofessional and immature. He is one of the reasons why many South African soccer fans have stopped watching SABC Sport in favour of the more expensive SuperSport on DSTV. Mokoena can certainly learn a thing or two from SuperSport presenter Robert Marawa, and the SABC as a whole should look at upgrading their production ahead of the 2010 World Cup because to be brutally honest it's pathetic.
Mokoena is no stranger to controversy though, last year the outspoken presenter was suspended by the National broadcaster after joking about how Brazilian footballer Garrincha lost his virginity to a goat. Mokoena was forced to apologise after the public laid a complaint with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission.
I really hope that the SABC gets better presenters and improve on their production quality by the time the World Cup kicks off next year.
Is being brutally honest such a bad thing? I rather like commentators controversial. At least they stir an emotion in the viewers.
ReplyDeleteTheres brutally honest then there's unprofesional. Calling for the head of the coach and captain after they have just secured qualification to the Semi finals of the Confederations Cup is a bit silly in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteMokoena has a habit of makig these kind of comments...The only emotion he stirs in viewers is agnger hehe. He remind me of ESPN's Tommy Smyth(with a 'Y')
Why do we hate the lacosters, in this country if you are a locoster you will be dragged down the bucket full of crab. The Mokoenas must be very high IQ people, where you find one lacoster they are at the helm of things. But for some reason in this country we seem to be blood thirty for the lacostes. Please people weapons down, the lacosters are a wonderful people. Albert Mokeona, Aaron Mokoena and Mokoena at SABC are all interlectuals. One of them has highest credentials than any democratically elected president we ever had. One of them is a house hold name in England. One of them is an authority on global media. One thing for sure just to mention a few lacosters is that they are extraordinary people. It will behoove us to treat them well if we going to be sailing in the waters.

LOL dude, you stil listen to that guy?
ReplyDeleteI think Walter be re-instated since his freedom of expression has been infriged upon without actually looking onto the reason for such comment, since every SA citizen is entitled to express oneself even if provoked by some domestic problemsand not to consider His Professional Standard since He is a human being just like every body else.If you look at the facts of the matter, the poor guy was supposed to be happy on that day since it was his BirthDay but he was not acting accondingly which brings me to the quetion wether he commented intentionaly? or was he provoked under irresistable impulses?such quesions must be viewed in the ligth of all circumstances favouring this specific day of comment..Namely BIRTHDAY....
ReplyDeletebesides freedom of expression walter is human and definately loves, this country and he spoke his mind . Here in SA we are not a timid society when it , comes to our foot ball every irrational soccer fan could see the coach and his, captain were sinking us .Walter is the best foot ball show facilitator or host after Robert murawa and undestands exactly the repucations of his actions the passion that runs in his blood is what surfaced on the day. Prior to yhis so called "un objective piece of report " walter has always been on top of his game . This is South Africa we know and love our foot ball if Santana came all the way fromm south america to deffend and think we are going to applaud that he is dead wrong. by sazinaldo yende
ReplyDeleteDude is a presenter and not a commentator, if he feels he needs to express his opinion maybe he should change career from presenter to commentator...
ReplyDeletei cant believe how unprofessional walter mokeona was last night after going on about the negatives of the england team, they were brilliant and so were the american team who did a great job of defending. Also he went on and on about the mishap of the goalkeeper - green . It happened - move on but he went on and on. In my opinion he just lacks a wide range of intellectual thinking to speak about other more relevant things
ReplyDeleteas far as I am concerned he is an embarrasment to sa presenting
ReplyDeletealso whats with these vuvuzelas - going on and on _ no restraint - I dont know how these soccer professionals actually focus with the racket
ReplyDeletewalter is no more with sabc,so hope most of u that were not happy with his work are happy now.
